AVALON - Patrick S. Davies, of 2139 Ocean Dr., was graduated summa cum laude, from the University of Scranton, a private Jesuit Institution in Scranton, Pa., with a Bachelor of Science degree i n L a w Enforcement/Modern Language Patrick, with a .final average of 3.9, was on the Dean’s List all eight semesters, was a member of the university's Special Honors Program Jn his sophomore and ljunior years and studied <0 the University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain in his junior year He was also voted the “Excellence in Criminal Justice Award,’’ and was elected to four national and international honor societies. These include P: Gamma Mu, International Social Science Honor Society; Alpha Mu Gamma, the national collegiate foreign language honor society; Alpha Phi Sigma, national honor society for those distinguished in law enforcement and criminal justice, and Alpha Sigma Nu, the national honor society for students in Jesuit colleges and universities Criteria for selection 16 this honor society are outstanding scholarship, loyalty, and service to the university It is the most sought after honor society on campus, with the most rigorous entrance requirements. ALSO, THE Institute of International Education, in New York, named Davies “The 1983-84 International Telephone and Telegraph Fellow’’ for study at Catholic University, in Santiago, Chile The fellowship carriea a $9,600 stipend to finance Davies’ research program on “Social Mobility in Chile." This is a prestigious, nationwide competitive fellowship, and is awarded to only 25 graduating seniors annual ly One per host country, one per campus. Davies was the only graduate of any of the 29 American Jesuit colleges and universities to be selected for this honor this year His wife, the former Jan Gevelinger. a 1982 honor graduate of the University

of Wisconsin, White Water, and baby daughter, Meghan, will accompany Davies on his fellowship year. Mr. and Mrs. Davies are both proficient in Spanish, the national language of Chile.

Davies, a 1979 graduate of Wildwood Catholic High School, is the son of Arthur and Anne Davies, of Avalon, and the grandson of Mary E. Bailey, of Court House, and Ida J. Davies, of Merritt Island, Fla.
