Uithol. a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 1958. Mis first assignment was as a deck watch officer on the Cutter Norihwind. an assignment that took him to botji the north and south polar regions. Since then he has served as executive officer of on^fcutter, and a& commandingtifficer of four other cutterffT ^ Mis shore assignments have included the Reserve Training- Center. Yorktown. VA , where he was Chief, Professional studies department Officer Candidate School and tours in Coast Guard Headquarters. Captain Uithol holds a Master's Degree in Person nel Administration from George Washington University and is a graduate of the National War College. Washington. D C. Me and his wife Nan cy. also of Grand Rapids, have two daughters, one at tending Radford Universi ty and the other a graduate student at the American University m Washington. DC
