HR Derby Comes Sat. SEA ISLE CITY - The Tastykake Baking Co. plans to bring the popular Phillies Home Run Derby here July 9 at 10 a m. The contest is free for boys and girls eight to 15. Official entry forms will be available at Dealy Field the day of the contest. Home Run Derby uses an automatic pitching machine to throw 10 pitches to each contestant. Points are scored for all fair ball hits, distance hits and home runs. THE SCORING SYSTEM used by the Derby is fair to all youngsters Any ground ball within the baselines is one point. Distahce hits are two points and home runs are five points.- The distance hits and home runs are well within the range of most hitters. For example, in ‘B’ division, ages 10. 11 and 12. the distance hit is only 125-feet and the home run 150-feet This is considerably shorter than normal Little League fencing A younger just meeting the ball every •' time can often outscore the power hitter The speed of the pitch as well as the scoring distances changes with each age division Home Run Derby is looking to make everyone a hitter, said Paul Bradley, Home Run Derby Director.
