AVALON — Winners in the borough Recreation Department’s annual swimming races and field events recently have been announced. The swimming Hobie Cat

Regatta On Saturday AVALON — The Recreation Department is coun ting on bright skies and just the right amount of wind for this Saturdays, and Aug 20, when the annual Hobie Cat regattas will be held Letters have gone out to those who participated in last year’s event urging them to sign up again this year and have their catamaran owner friends do the same The events this year will be limited to the first 75 boats to register on a first come first serve basis Registration the day of the event will begin at 9 am, the Skippers' meeting a 10 a m and the race will begin at II a m at the 45th St beach BOATS WITIIOI T per mils will be able to stay on the beach Friday and Saturday nights, but must be off by noon on Saturday All boats must tie insured Fees will be $10 per per son. 14 foot boats $10 and 10 & IH foot boats $20 Checks are to Ik* made payable to the Avalon Regatta Com mittee" and mailed with an entry form to 140 17th Street Forms are available at the 8th Street Tennis Court Office and Community Hall It is recommended that only experimented a ' sailors'' compete In case of failing wind or uncertain weather the regatta may be postponed, a decision to be made on site the day of the regatta by the Avalon Recreation Department and officials of the Beach Patrol

TUCKAHOE - Tlic Up per Township Beach Patrol at Strathmere is sponsoring a Red Cross Senior Lifesaving water safety instruction program that started Monday The course is taught by veteran lifeguard Joseph LaRosa of Seaville. a former member of the Up * per Township Beach Patrol now serving with the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol LaRosa has 14 years of lifeguardmg experience Completion of the course will earn participants a Red Cross Senior Life Saving certificate. It is being held mornings at the Strathmere beach and bay for a period of two weeks Captain Jeff Henning noted that LaRosa will also give a refresher course in CPR training to the members of the Township Beach Patrol
