Senate KOs Labor Bills

TRENTON - The Senate has rejected Assembly 585 and Senate 1235, the controversial labor bills which would have expanded the permissive category of negotiations for public employees, by a vote of 22-18. Commissioner Charles Guhr. Wildwood Crest, president of the New Jersey State league of Municipalities, stated. "The defeat of this legislation marks a major legislative victory for local governments, and municipal officials who worked so diligenty in urging their legislators to vote against this legislation should be congratulated The enactment of this legislation would have had a devastating financial impact on the taxpaying public."
