$53,518 Shelter, Food Aid
RIO GRANDE - The county has received $53,518 through the Jobs Stimulus Bill to relieve the severity of current economic conditions on families unable to keep up with the needs of food and shelter. The distribution of the funds is overseen by a Local Board, chaired by the United Way, and composed of representatives of the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, Catholic Social Services, Crest Community Church, Temple Beth Judah, and Freeholder Gerald Thoriiton. The Local Board meets regularly with the private volunteer organizations which provide emergency
food and/or shelter to individuals and families in the county. THE EMERGENCY funds make it possible for these organizations to expand their services in the provision of food and/or shelter according to their established guidelines for eligibility. Cape Human Resources and the American Red Cross are the lead agencies in the coordination of the funding with the many other agencies which supply emergency help. Further information on the program may be obtained . from ' the United Way office at 729-2255.
