CAPE MAY - The city's second annual Performing Arts Festival continues this week with three engagements: Summer Festival Chorus, an evening of British Music Hall, and Dancers Two. The MidAtlantic Center for the Arts sponsors this festival and offers a subsidized ticket price. The Summer Festival Chorus will be back for its second year singing Broadway medleys and other familiar tunes at Convention Hall 9 p.m. Sunday. The Summer Festival Chorus was started a decade ago as part of a summer workshop program. In the years since, the chorus has grown into a local institution under its

permanent director, Paul McKay. THE FESTIVAL singers come from throughout the South Jersey area and are lawyers, bankers, nurses, teachers, students, and many others. The ensemble begins its second decade with a new affiliation as the chorus in residence at Atlantic Community College. McKay is director of music at Margate Community Church and at Beth Israel Synagogue. He has taught at Atlantic Community College and Stockton College, where he was also choral director. He holds a Master of Music degree from Temple University and has studied directing at Juilliard.

“An Evening of British Music Hall will be presented 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, on the MAC outdoor stage (1048 Washington St). Patrons are encouraged to bring beach and lawn chairs and beach blankets for the lawn seating (lounge chairs are not permitted and chairs may be rented). This is a musical and theatrical presentation consisting of songs and other materials from the music halls of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, including recitations and instrumental solos. The ensemble uses full period costumes and props. Some of the instruments they will be using including piano, guitar, French horn, trumpet, recorder, banjo, concertina, pennywhistle and slide whistle. As is traditional in music halls, the group provides song sheets and encourages audience participation. DANCER TWO will appear at the MAC outdoor stage 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. Show Stoppers, the 20-member traveling dance company from Dancers Two, Inc., Court House, made their debut on the 1983 cancer telethon. They performed for the Cumberland County Campers Association in April. This May, they participated in the Dennis Township Talent Show and the Boy Scout benefit at Convention Hall. Last month the troupe danced for the Central Square Funday and made three appearances at Lucille Russro’s Boardwalk Revie in Atlantic City. The one-hour program will include numbers in tap, jazz, classical, ballet, and tumbling.
