WASHINGTON - The Federal Trade Commission will be required to report on certain enforcement activities to Cor^ress every six months under an amendment sponsored by U.S. Senator Frank R. Bay Traffic Shows Rise CAPE MAY - Things are booming over Delaware Bay as both the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and the Delaware Memorial Bridge reported traffic increased in July over the same month last

year.

Ferry traffic was 57,670 vehicles and 199,838 passengers, up 8.8 percent for vehicles and 8.1 percent for passengers. Traffic for the 12-month period ended July 31 was up 7 percent

and 7.8 percent.

Memorial Bridge traffic increased by 79,644 vehicles, up 4 percent. For

the 12-month period, were 19,354,968, On, crease of 4.6 percent -' Dog Tag Fee Up

TUCKAHOE - There is now a $3. state-imposed surcharge on dog licenses in Upper Township, according to Township Dog Warden Robert Vassallo, for all dogs not spayed or neutered. The increase was approved by the Upper

Township Committee.

The reasoning for the surcharge by the state is to fund a state-wide dog sterilization program, Vassallo noted. However, the state program is still

being designed.

"UNWANTED ANIMALS are increasing at a staggering rate throughout the state," Vassallo said, "and the State Legislature passed the legislation at the urgings of many animal welfare groups, as a way to curb the situation." Vassallo also reminded Township residents that dogs and cals are available for adoption at the township animal shelter on Butter Rd., Palermo, “We are constantly receiving dogs and cats that would make ideal pets, and perhaps we have the pet for you," he concluded. Lautenberg (D-N.J.). Lautenberg said the amendment is in response to criticism that the FTC is failing to enforce the law against resale price maintenance. Resale price maintenance is a type of vertical price fixing in which a manufacturer tells a retailer that his product can’t sell below or above a particular price. "The FTC has shown an interest in changing the way resale price maintenance law works." according to Lautenberg. "The commission believes a looser standard should apply. And even before Congress or the courts change the standard, a majority of the commission seems intent on exercising its prosecutorial discretion to conform to its own view of what the law should be. In other words, their enforcement activities are not up to what they could be," the senator said.
