Rockets, Demons Girls’ Hoop Champs

STONE HARBOR - The girls finished their basketball season Aug. 2. The first game of the night decided the champions for the Junior Girls. The Red Rockets battled it out until the end and came up on top of the Blue Sneakers, 10-8. Stephanie Sposato led the Rockets with six points with the other four points from Tracy Greenwaldt. Patty Ward. Katie O’Mata. Norine Bastian and C. Ryan each had two points for the Sneakers. Other members of the Red Rocket Champions are Heather Geiger, Meg Beison, Chris Yost. Meredith Hinkle, and Pam Meadowcroft. • In the other game the Sun Devils beat the Green Heads 20-10. Cindy Coyle led the Sun Devils with 12 points while Karen Robinson had 6 points. The Green Heads were led by Michelle Five-Mile Run AVALON - The borough's annual street run was won by Dave Owens, who turned in a time of 25:25 for the fivemile course.

Greenwaldt with 8 points. IN THE GIRLS’ Senior League the Blue Demons were challenged by the AllStars. The All-Stars defeated the champs 42-41 with a basket in the last 10 seconds by Janice Boyle. Caren Forbes led the Demons with 18 points. At the end of the game awards were given to the All-Stars and the Blue Demon Champions. Members of the Blue Demon Champions were Marie Wozniak, Sandy Yoat. Kerry Reilly. Michelle Wentllng. Clare Ryan, Amy Juenger and Caren Forbes, who was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the Year Trophy. Devilish Tie For Cagers STONE HARBOR - The boys basketball league finished out its regular season of play with the Yellow Sun Devils and the Blue Devils in a virtual tie for first plac$. The Sun Devils utilized 23 and 22 points from Dave Neditaon and Vince Sposato respectively to cruise to an easy 64-40 win over the Green Fighting Irish. Tim llelmick’s (21 points) strong performance led the way for the Irish. The Blue Devils used a trapping half-court defense to defeat the Kelly Spartans 70-44. Jim Misurelli led all scoi-eps with 27 points while teammates Rob Stewart and John Meluta combined for 36 more. David Smith tallied 23 points in the Spartans' losing cause. A full court pressing defense led the way for the Redmen as they manhandled the Royal Wildcats 57-31.
