CAPE MAY - Gloria’s Saloon ended the National League men's softball season with a bang, sweeping its last three games to up its record to 16-16. On Thursday Gloria’s edged the Coast Guard Bears 4 to 3. Don Khinesmith and Herb Hudson led the charge with two hits apiece. Gary Montgomery, Khinesmith and Terry Brown provided excellent defense to assure the win. Gloria's then went on tpl defeat Eckel’s Diesel . twice.* On Friday Gloria's destroyed Eckel’s 12 to 4. Jack Jenkins, Gary Montgomery and Bob Hoskins led the offense in a victory that clinched fifth place for them. Grande's Bar also ended the season on a good note as it also swept the last two games and upped its record to 21-11 to capture third place. On Friday Grande's downed Kona Sports 6 to 1 behind strong defense. Grande's then beat the

Coast Guard Bears Monday. K R A M M E K BEVERAGE remained in second place as it won its last two games' of the season to end up with a record of 24-7. On Friday Krammer got its offense in high gear to dwon Quinn's Repairs 17 to 1. On Monday Krammer rolled over Bayshore Lounge in another impressive offen-, sive display. Quinn's Repair downed Kona 11 to 9 in a dramatic season-ending victory that clinched the last playoff spot. Ricky Hawley led the charge for Quinn’s, going 4 for 4. Kenny Zimmerman backed up Hawley with two triples and Chris D'Ercole chipped in a triple. Hobie Cats In Regatta

AVALON — The second of Avalon’s Annual Hobie Cat Regattas will be held Saturday at the 45th St., each. The event is limited to the first 75 boats to register on a first come, first served basis. Registration is on the 45th St., beach the morning of the event beginning at 9 a m., with a skippers' meeting at 10 a m., and sailing time at 11 a.m.

borough's Sixth Annual Run for Life, for the benefit of the youth awareness drug and alcohol program, will be held Sunday, Sept. 4, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The five-mile run will be over a certified course starting and finishing at 20th and Dune Drive. There will also be a one-mile fun

run.

ALL PARTICIPANTS will receive mementoes, and trophies will be awarded. Trophies will be given for first, second, and third place in five men’s age categories and four

women’s, plus first through seventh place for male and female finishers aged 17-29. Entry fee is 16. Checks should be payable to Run for Life, P.O. Box 1, Avalon, 08202. Preregistration may be any time to race day at the Avalon' Sporting Goods Store, 26th and Dune Drive, and the Sporting Goods Shop, 9721 Second Ave.,

Boats without -permits will be able to stay on the beach Friday and Saturday nights, but must be off by noon Sunday. All boats must be insured. Forms are available at the 8th Street Tennis Court Office and the Avalon Community Hall. There will be sandwiches and beer served following the event. It is recommended that only experienced “sailors" compete. In case of failing wind or uncertain weather the regatta may be postponed. That decision will be made on site the day of the regatta by the Recreation Department and Officials of the Beach Patrol.

Surfing Contest

AVALON - The Eighth Annual Duke Surfing Championship contest will be held 8:30 a.m. Aug. 20 and 21 on the 30th St. Surfing beach. The no-wind date will be Aug. 27. The categories for the championship will be Longknee and boogie board, as well as body surfing. Sign up for the event will be on the beach from 7 to 8:30 a.m. In addition to the surfing contest there will be a bikini contest and fashion show on the beach to entertain the crowd of onlookers. Jane Kirwan is director and fashion co-ordinator for the show. For further information call her at 368-3551. For information on the Surfing Contest call the Recreation Department at 967-3066.
