Musically, the band is fortunate to have sharp, exciting guitar leads and sax breaks, while lead vocalist Peter Zaremba sings with emotion, power, and conviction. Those who feel there aren't any current rock bands keeping alive the tradition of the 60s’ should immediately check out the amazing Fleshtones. Rock and roll has never sounded better. Thanks to the success of The Stray Cats and' Rockats, rockabilly is becoming a major trend in pop music. Not since the 50s’ have there been so many rockabilly bands. To be blunt, most of them stink, as they only seem concerned with dressing the part and not working on their music. But there are some pleasant exceptions. Jimmy and The Mustangs Hey Lillie Girl 1 (Vanity, 9454 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 201, . Severely Hills, CA. 90212) is a solid start. Jimmy Silvers is a good singer and the songs are fairly hot. Even when the material might be a bit weak the guitar work of Jerry Sikorski usually saves the day. This is a band worth watching. England’s The Polecats on their mini-album Make A Circuit With Me (Mercury) isn’t as good as Jimmy & The Mustangs, but yet one can sense there is some potential here. They sing and play well, but too often try to be overly clever. Worth keeping tabs on, but so far The Polecats aren’t essential. Jules Shear's new album
