Historical Society Lecture Series Set

WILDWOOD CR. - A lecture series titled “South Jersey History, Culture and Heritage” will be presented by the Wildwood Crest Historical Society and Museum Tuesday evenings, beginning 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20, and ending Nov. 15. The lectures will be given at Crest Memorial School, St. Louis and New Jersey Aves. Opening speaker-will be Frank Rocks, Ed. M., who is on the faculty of St' James High School, Pennsville. His title will be "Meaning of History, Culture, and Heritage. OTHER LECTURES scheduled are: On Sept. 27, R. Craig Koedel, Professor of History at Atlantic Community College, and an ordained Presbyterian minister. His topic will be "Preachers and Pulpits in Early South Jersey." On Oct. 4, Shirley Bailey, owner, editor and publisher of the South Jersey Magazine. Dr. Robert Harper, Oct. 11. He is Professor of History at Glassboro State College. His topic will be "South Jersey History from 1800 to the Civil War. On Oct. 18 Kenneth Gittle, an Erma resident and authority on firearms, will speak on antique firearms and guns and will display part of his collection. MOFFIE BREAKELL. known restaurenteur, TV host, and authority on antiques, will speak Oct. 25. She will have a visual display of antiques of par ticular interest. On Nov. 1, Charles Neff, of Wildwood, will lecture on glass, particularly bottles. He will display some of his collection of 1,500 to 2,000 bottles. What was heard, was liked so much we’ve brought him back. Thomas Jorgensen, a Wildwood Crest resident, will lecture Nov. 8. Jorgensen spent a number of years in the U.S. Navy as an instructor and teacher and during this time, collected rare old pictures, photos and prints and

memorabilia of transportation as it existed on the islands from Cape May to Atlantic City. THE CLOSE-OUT featured speaker is William McMahon Nov. 15. A former reporter on the 1 Atlantic City Press, where he is still a featured columnist, he is author of many widely read books on South Jersey. Tuition may be paid at the door on opening night.
