Brisk Winds Blow Good to Art Show

CAPE MAY - Cool weather and brisk winds kept the beaches uncrowded and packed the Washington Street Mall with art lovers — and buyers — for the first annual Juried Mall Art Show, sponsored by the County Art League. The show, chaired by Mrs. Phyllis Catanoso of North Wildwood and cochaired by Art League Resident Artist Jude Burkhauser and Catherine E. Williams of Whites boro,

attracted 55 artists in professional and amateur categories. Artists displayed oils, watercolors, graphics and * sculpture down the entire three blocks of the Mall. Judging for the show was done by Francis Barone, artist and teacher from Philadelphia and Mel Leipzig, an artist from Trenton. Awards and ribbons were presented Sunday afternoon with Cape May City Deputy Mayor Adrian Capehart and Washington

Luis Campo, Quilt Show Sept. 9-10 OCEAN CITY - The se cond "hopefully annual" Quilt Show and Sale sponsored by the Recreation Department will be held 10 a m.-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10, at the Youth Center, Eighth and Atlantic (behind the tennis courts) The show is designed to. appeal to artists, antique buffs, and quilt makers Proceeds will be used for support of the depart ment’s youth program. Susan Aylsworth Murwin, co-author of "Quick and Easy Patchwork on the Sewing Machine" and other works on quilting, wHI be the guest Her books will be available and the author with autograph copies 10 a.m.-l p.m. each day. More than 50 entries will be on display, including quilted vests, wall hang ings, and a minature doll quilt. A third of the entries are on loan from private collections.
