CAPE MAY - Former professional wrestler, power lifter and Cape May life guard Maurice A. Catarcio will attempt to unofficially erase fitness king Jack LaLanne's 160-pound record for the straight two-arm pull in weightlifting during the annual Life Guard's Ball at Convention Hall, Friday, Aug. 26.

Norcross in
Global Shield WILDWOOD - Newly promoted Tech. Sgt. Larry C. Norcross, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.K. Norcross of Shawcrest Mobile Home Park, has participated in Global Shield 83, an exercise involving U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps units, and elements of the Canadian forces. Norcross is assigned with the 351st Strategic Missile Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo. He is a 1964 graduate of Wildwood High School.
If he succeeds, Catarcio will apply to officially attempt to break the record at the National Power Lifting Championships this fall. Qn several recent occasions, Catarcio said, he has pulled more than 150 pounds. Last week, he barely missed lifting 16m pounds, he said.
Bethune Sent To Germany WHITESBORO - Sgt. Floyd A. Bethune, son of local residents Marie and Nathinel Bethune, has arrived for duty in Aschaffenburg, West Germany. Bethune, a personnel specialist with the 3rd Infantry Division, was previously assigned at Fort Sam Houston, Tx. He is a 1981 graduate of Middle Township High School.

STONE HARBOR - The final game of the year in the Soccer League was played Friday, Aug. 12, and the championship was decided on the first game as the Red Snappers squeaked out a 2-1 victory over the Yellow Submarines. Chris Rice and Matt Greece tallied the Snappers’ goal while Shawn McCormack scored the Submarines’ only goal. The second game decided the third place finisher as the Blue Claws crushed the Green Heads 4-0. Justin Zackey, Brendon Rorck, Mike McFarlane and Steven Whelan scored for the Claws. STONE HARBOR - The soccer league had its annual All-Stars versus Champions Wednesday, August 17. The Red Snappers, the league champs, took on a heavily manned All-Star squad which consisted of four selections each from the Yellow Submarines, Blue Claws, and the Green Heads. The All Stars used three first half goals as they cruised to victory 3-0. Goals were scored by Joe Kautrrman. Chris Fullerton, and Joe Sparta to lead the All-Stars Cause.
4-H Seeking New Clubs
COURT HOUSE - The county 4-H organization is urging formation of 4-H clubs in neighborhoods for children 9 to 19. Needed are at least five youngsters and one or more adults to work with them and guide them. 4-H members learn skills in areas like gardening, foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, photography or sciences, and arts and crafts. PARTICIPANTS learn to plan their own programs and run their own clubs with 4-H help and direction. There is no registration fee and most project materials are provided without cost.
