IN THE SWIM — Chuck McCann, center, who placed second in first annual one-mile sWIm in Wildwood recently with 400 competitors, is congratulated by his son, Thomas F. McCann, captain of Sea Isle City Beach Patrol, and Mayor Dominick C. Raffa, right, who also presented McCann with an award for his effort in 65-70 age group. Elder McCann will take part in Miss America Pageant swim in Atlantic City Labor Day.

Fall Rec. Schedule

AVALON — Recreation Director Dave Haberle has announced that the Community Hall will be closed for renovations and repairs from Labor Day'until the end of October. There will be a limited recreation schedule: Slimnastics will start Sept. 12 at the Maris Stella Auditorium 9-10 a m. Monday. Wednesday and Friday. Tot shop registration will be Sept. 12-23 at Community Hall office 9 a.m.-noon class will run 9 a . m . -noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning Oct. 3. The Bowling League will meet 12:30 p.m. Sept. 14 to discuss rule changes and team format. The league starts 12:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at Wildwood bowling lanes. Special Committees are

working on the plans for Family Day Oct. 15 at the Elementary School with booths, exhibits, fun, games and puppet shows. On Oct. 29 there will be a Halloween Party at Community Hall.

WILDWOOD - Airman Wilbert E. Williams, son of William E. Williams of Philadelphia and Alt&rta R. Williams of 332 W. Andrews Ave., has been assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, after completing Air Force basic .training at Lackland Air Force Base, Tex. The airman will now receive specialized 7 instruction in the medical services field.

CAPE MAY - Law’s Printing swept undefeated through the National League men's softball playoffs to capture the league championship. Law’s took both games from Gloria's Saloon in the best of three semi-final series. Law's downed Gloria’s 16 to 4 as John Fuller started things off with a bang in the first inning with a 3-run homer. Fuller went on to collect three, hits for the game and three rbi’s. Kevin Sherman continued his hot hitting in the playoffs as he collected four hits. Glenn Reagan and Kill Cook contributed three hits apiece. Law’s then downed a stubborn Gloria’s team 7 to 6 to advance to the finals. IN THE FINALS, Law’s maintained its perfect record as it downed Grande's Bar 7 to 4. The game was nip and tuck until Law's put it away in the bottom of the 5th, scoring two runs on singles by Brendan Rosenberg and Fuller. Glen Reagan^and Rill Coombs contributed two hits apiece in a winning cause. In the second game, Law's and Grande’s battled through six innings only to find themselves knotted at 3 to 3. Law’s finally broke loose with two runs as Rosenberg and Carl Umshcid delivered rbi singles. Bill Cook. Fuller and Ed Grant backed, up Rosenberg and Umsheid with two hits apiece. Law's wrapped up the championship Wednesday by downing Grande’s 12 to 3. Sherman smacked a home run. Ted Ferrante and Rosenberg backed up Sherman with triples. Ferrante pitched a masterful game as he constantly kept batters off stride.

Guard Airman Out of Basic

CAFE MAY - Air National Guard Airman Allyn M. Hailey, son of A. A. Hailey of Hudson, Fla., and ftita K. Bunting of Rural Route 2, has been assigned to Lowry Air Force Base, Colo., after completing Air Force basic training. The airman will now receive specialized instruction in the avionics systems field. His wife, Joann, is the daughter of Ina L. Daebler of 136 Eldridge Ave., West Cape May. He is a 1981 graduate of Lower Cape May Regional High School.
