Boro Lauds Rec Staff

AVALON — The Avalon Recreation Committee and Councilwoman Pauline Petrica thanked the Summer Recreation Staff for a “job well done” '•and for their activities throughout the summer. The summer activities include, handcrafts, tennis, swimming instruction, biddie baseball, dances, art and antique shows, fashion show, Halloween parade, Hobie cat races, beach runs and many others. The staff is led by Director of Recreation Dave Haberle, a graduate of Penn State University with a B.S. in Recreation and Parks, who has served for years. LORNA E. NOEL, the aquatics director, is a graduate of Cedar Crest College, a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and an elementary school teacher. She was assisted - by Mary Hogan, who is a student at Marquette University in , Milwaukee, Wis. The Fine Arts Director for the summer was Patricia Clark of Baltimore, who is a graduate of Washington College and. was assisted— by Teresa Foley of Avalon, who has been with the recreation department for four years and serves as a Tot Shop Instructor during winter months. Tennis Instruction was handled by Anita Hoffner of Fairfield University and Connecticut University and Regina Kerwan, graduate of Holy .Family College. Director of the.tennis program was Doreen Drexel, who has been on staff for nine years and bolds a B.S. and Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Frostberg State College. Rounding out the staff were Fred Boch, soccer and basketball coordinator; Margaret Wilson, the gymnastics coordinator, and Betty Beattie, the SUmnastics instructor.
