ED NOTE - This is one in a series of articles by Frist Call for Help, a division of the United Way of Cape May County, explaining human service agencies. First Call, at 729 2255, can refer persons to the appropriate afency. The Office ort Aging, located in the Social Services Building in Rio Grande, is the senior citizens’ best friend. They offer anything from warm conversation, information and referral to help with income taxes. The Office on Aging facilitates any aspect of life for the senior citizen, such as filling out the multitude
of paper work associated with Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Medicare (confusing to a person half the age) as well as applications for Lifeline and heating assistance. Counselors will advise on supplemental insurance plans for health care, and help in making out a will. When you are eligible, your senior discount card is issued from this office. FOR THOSE WHO are homebound, there are three counselors who are available to come to the home to help with any of these services. The Office on Aging has just put a courtesy van into service which will bring their services into different areas of the county. The Office on Aging has published a booklet called "Keeping Up with the Times" which is a valuable resources listing of services available to retired citizens of Cape May County. The booklet and further information are available., by calling the Office on Aging at 886-2784.
