England's GRAHAM PARKER has gotten the critical respect that he deserves, but, unfortunately, he's still looking for that first hit record. The Real Macaw (Arista) to another amazingly strong outing for the ,R&B inspired vocalist. His voice has plenty of punch and emotion and the material is memorable and strong. Though Parker has his share of ardent fans, he’s making music that should be heard by the masses. If radio programmers would give him a chance, The Real Macaw could easily enlarge his audience. After two delightful albums of innocent pop. Altered Images have changed direction and Die result is a complete failure Rite (Epic) is a dull, uninspired collection of disco-oriented material. CLAIRE GROGAN S once original voice sounds flat and out-of-place with this material and her fellow musicians;come off as being lazy. Bite is a major setback for Altered Images and one has to wonder if they'll ever bounce back. One thing that has bounced back is the resurgence of the popularity of the blues. One of the reasons is the extremely talented Texas guitarist STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN. His debut Texas Flood (Epic) is a hot collection of blues tracks that make fine use of his enthralling guitar, breaks and gutsy vocals. Not since JOHNNY WINTERS debut has a white blues musician found critical as well as commercial success with the blues. Hopefully, this record will

be an inspilratKi£)to a lot of young bands to get back to roots musip. There also seems to be a folk revival underway, though it's still a bit early to tell how far this will actually go. One of the folk performers who seems to have a new lease on his career is LOUDON WAINWRIGHT m. His most recent effort, Fame and Wealth (Rounder, 186 Willow Ave. Somerville, MA. 02144) is another collection of simple, offbeat tunes. Wainwright is a funny guy who easily puts his zany sense of humor into his . lyrics. Maybe Wainwright is too odd for top-ten status but one thing is certain, he’s truly unique.

Congress Hall

Antique Show CAPE MAY - IN conjunction with. Victorian Weekend, an antique show will be presented at Congress Hall, Congress St. and the beach, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, OctfJ, and 10 a m-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, to benefit the MidAtlantic Center for the Performing Arts. There will be 35 exhibitors of Americana, with emphasis on the Victorian period.
