Chest Assn. Goes Independent
HAMMONTON - The Chest and Health Association of Southern New Jersey, formerly the American Lung Association of Southern New Jersey, will remain at 21S. Washington St., continuing local community healfh services to help prevent lung disease and assist • those afflicted with respiratory disorders. The decision to sever the 80-year tie resulted from the national organization's attempt to gain complete control over all operations in the Southern New Jersey area. As a result of the local organization’s independence, all funds raised during this campaign season will stay within the seven Southern New Jersey counties, with no funds going to state or national organizations, as in the past. With these added resources, the Chest and Health Association will be able to serve local residents with a greater number of wide-spread programs. "THE PURPOSE of this change is to continue localized health services to residents of Atlantic, Cape May, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem Counties.” said Robert W Giordano, president of the association, “services will continue in the areas of
preventive programs and direct patient care. Since we are no longer hampered by national guidelines, program services will be expanded into other areas of community health, reaching more people with more services.” Present services being offered by the Chest and Health Association of Southern New Jersey include occupational health programs, pulmonary function testing, home health care services, smoking withdrawal clinics, program to teach school-age
children the dangers of smoking and workshops to help asthmatic children deal with their special problems. These programs will be financed through mailings, such as seals sent during the Christmas Season and various other times during the year, asking area residents for their support. For more information or questions concerning community health service programs offered, contact the Chest and Health Association at 561-8700 or stop by the office.
