George Quinn, an ex-state trooper, has completely revised the department police and has many new personnel. • • • State powers-that-be cheated many locals out of their property tax rebate checks. Over 13,000 state taxpayers lost out on their tax rebate checks because they missed the deadline. The state retains the $2.5 million. They are victims of an obscure decision made hush-hush in / ihe treasury department that the filing deadline for the rebate check would be extended only once — from Dec. 1 to Jan. 15 (about the dates of the household Christmas rush season). In the past, the treasury had extended deadlines to March 1, giving everyone entitled to the refund a chance to cash in. Next month the applications go out again — be forewarned: fill out the simple form
