Bennett Avenue. Actually, the former commissioner started his public service while on retirement from General Mold and Machinery in Millville where he had worked as an electrical engineer. \ Born in Pitman. \ Ostrander later moved to Philadelphia where he met and married the former Elizabeth Almegord. The couple moved to the Wildwoods. 37 years ago where they settled and raised three sons and a daughter. When first elected commissioner in May, 1968. Wildwood was in the midst of urban renewal projects, including the construction of low-cost housing. Ostrander has supervised city departments charged with sanitation, road and boardwalk upkeep and is proudofhis accomplishments. “There’s been a tremendous street program going on during all those years,” be said itf his decade and a half in office, the second longest tenure in city history. His interest in public service has rubbed off on his sons: Earl was recently elected as Wildwood's mayor, Wilbur was promoted to captain after 22 years in the city’s police department and Lewis serves as a North Wildwood councilman. Daughter Doris Minore is a homemaker in Tumersville.
