COURT HOUSE - A political sign war is on in Middle Township. Committee candidates Pat Peterson and Jim Alexis both reported campaign signs missing or 'destroyed last week. Peterson, the Republican incumbent, told township police that she found two of her signs destroyed when returning home from a campaign dinner Fridaynight. She stopped short of blaming the Democrats while complaining, "It sure looks suspicious." Alexis, Peterson's Democratic challenger, sympathized with his opponent Monday. ‘T haven’t had any of my big ones taken down," he said. "All she has is big ones.” Still, Alexis said, three of his signs were removed last week in Green Creek and two others were taken down in the Rio Grande vicinity. He reported the incidents to borough officials earlier last week. “Over the summer,” Alexis added, ‘T lost between 15 and 18 signs.” Estimating the cost of the larger lawn signs at $15418 each, Alexis noted, "It’s too costly on both signs of the fence” to continue the battle. He and Peterson called the incidents "childish." "I want to run a clean campaign without any childish actions or verbal attacks.” Peterson said.
