House Tours Highlight Of Victorian Weekend CAPE MAY — The moat popular feature of the city’s Victorian Weekend in October has always been the selfd tour of the 19th Century houses. A group of public rivate structures will be open Saturday, Oct. 8 and y, Oct. 9,11 a.m -4 p.tn. Featuring different houses s of the two days, this tour is the centerpiece of a i calendar of events during the four-day gala fall festival over the Columbus Day weekend. Some of the houses have never before been open to the public. OLD FAVORITES of the tour include the nationally publicized Mainstay Inn, built in 1872 as a gambling dub, the 16-room Pfaysick House (1881) that has been completely restored as a Victorian Museum, the Abbey (1869) with its intricately decorated Gothic Revival exterior and authentically restored interior and the Beach House, with its oceau view porches and extensive collection of miniatures # : , Of special interest in the 11th Annual Victorian Weekend will be the unique Octagon House and the 186 Holiday House of the Girls’ Friendly Society with its picturesque chapel and 1912 pump organ Many other private homes and guest cottages will also be open to provide at least 10 structures on each day of the tour. Other events of this celebration of CapeMay’s Victorian Heritage will be a Friday evening slide show by Sue Learning on Cape May’s Washington Street Before and After the Mall, a Saturday cocktail party and Victorian fashion show on the lawn of the Physick Estate, a Saturday evening Dinner-Hop at the 1896 Colonial .Hotel, a Sunday afternoon illustrated lecture by Charles Miller on Victorian Decor and DecOmm SUNDAY NIGHT will feature a series of Stained Glass Tours that examine the many fine windows in the Primary Historic District.
