for the season 5 pm. Sunday and will re-open next year in late spring. “We’ll set up Saturday morning, about 30 of us, which includes women and children who portray camp followers,” says Lt. Bob Ferris, adjutant to the militia. Ferris just returned from France, where he and his son helped re-enact ceremonies .celebrating the Treaty of Paris for America “I met the Marquis de Rochambeau. at his chateau there. His greatgrandfather served with Lafayette here in the American Revolution,” marvels Ferris. THE MILITIA will cook dinner Saturday, breakfast and.lunch on Sunday over an open fire in the manner of those times. The men at arms will fire their original and reproduction flintlock muskets in drills, and.will wear civilian dress of the period, as they did not have military uniforms and were essentially emergen cy warriors. Formed in 1974, the Bergen County Militia took its name in 1976 and is currently commanded by Maj. Gil Knapp. The men portray farmers, trades people, craftsmen, wealthy landowners and others of the 18th Century. Historic Cold Spring Village consists of 15 restored ‘ and preserved 18th and 19th century farm buildings featuring crafts demonstrations. A country store, farm wagon rides, fresh fall vegetables and the Old Orange Restaurant are part of its attractions. The village is open daily 10 a.m. — 5 p.m. until Oct. 2.
