Regional Only Winner In Grid Season Openers v
The high school football season got under way this past weekend and defending Cape Atlantic League II champion Lower Cape May Regional picked up .right where it left off last season. TTie Tigers used a; bit of magic in a 14 to 6 winner ever newcomer Oakcrest. The trickery came in the form of a flea-flicker pulled off in the second quarter. Quarterback Sean Brennan flipped the ball to Dan Brown who tossed a 45-yard stike to Bruce Fournier. Earlier, Brennen hit Claude Wise. on an 18-yard TD play. The three other teams from Cape May didn’t find the going as easy as Lower. Wildwood lost to Pleasantvilk 20-8 after leading 8-0. Greg Cardan scored from one yard out for the kme Warrior tally. Middle Township had trouble finding the end tone as the Panthers were shut out by St. Joseph, fel-0, at Court House. Middle, sporting a young starting line-

soccer play last week. The Panters used a two-goal first half in the 2 to 1 victory. Kevin MacFarlane and Milo Donovan were the scorers for Middle while Keith Jackson netted the lone tally for the Caper Tigers. V Ocean City got two^oal games from Rob Donovan and Bill Gallagher as the Red Raiders topped Oakcrest 6-0. Joe Morrissey and Scott Paratto capped the scoring with one goal each. MARKERS: Time for some fun. Boy I can’t believe it. The Phillies look like a major League ball club again and what a time to do it. The Phils put together the longest winning, streak
since 1969 to put the lid on the National League East They are playing well enough now to win the whole ball of wax. The reason — A1 Holland. He’s mopping up when the Fhils really need it. Lefty Steve Carlton, with a lack of fanfare, captured win number 306 Not a lot of people noticed. Now; who will win the races? I think the winner of the American league will win the series. My choice is the Baltimore Orioles. Remember good pitching feats good hitting and the O’s are loaded with both. What about the Philadelphia Eagles? They were kind enough to give the St. Louis Cardinals their first win. It looks like
a long season with the wrong combinations The America 's Cup races are finally over. And about time I might add. Hxise races took longer than the N.H.L. playoffs. Next time they get together for the races, they should keep it a secret until the final race. I must say something about college football. Last week I wrote about what a great year Notre Dame would have. Welli I had my hat handed to me again. The Fighting Irish took it on the chin on national TV -and looked like a junior high team in the process When I stick my neck out, the team I praise usually falls flat on its face. So, I'm pfi-edicting the Los Angeles Dodgers will go all the way.
