Legion Aid ^ Kec. Dept. Announces Gym Plans
For Special Olympics
WILDWOOD - At the American Legion 65th Annua! Convention Sept. 8-10, Albert J. Moeller, chair man of the Legion’s Special Olympic Committed, - presented Special Olympic Executive Director Donna M. Lemke with a $20,000 check. This donation represents a contribution by the American Legion Auxilary <V almost $3,500 with Little Gieger, the liaison for this group. New Jersey Special Olympics is a non-profit volunteer organization providing year-round training and athletic competition for mentally retarded adults and children in the State. Over 10,000 registered athletes participate in a variety of sports programs, all leading to state-wide' competitions The money donated by the American Legion will be used to sponsor "athletic competitions at the state level. College Editor COURT HOUSE - Local student Pam Clark served as a member et the staff of the Cabrini College newspaper Loquitor. which recently won first honor rating from the Associated Collegiate Press for excellence in coverage of news, content of stories, and writing of news and features for the fifth consecutive semester.
CAPE'MAY — Courses in gymnastics will once again be included in the city’s fall recreation schedule. Toddler gymnastics, ages 1 to 3, will be offered Saturdays from 11:15 to -'12:15 at the Franklin Street Civic Center. The class is designed to enhance the development of awareness, coordinatioh and perception. The very basics of gymnastics and tumbling will be . introduced All children must be accompanied by a parent or'guardian as they will play a major role in this program. Youth gymnastics will be divided into two classes according to age. The first class will be from 9 to 10 a.m. and will be fw those 11 years and under. Class Two will be for/ youngsters 12 Phonathon Nets $2,700 The March of Dimes recently completed its annual phonathon for Cape . May County. Volunteers manned the phones for three hours each evening calling people who have donated in the past to the March of Dimes and asking them to donate again. The response was a positive one with pledges amounting to approximately $2,700 Jim lannone donated the use of the offices at Freda Real Estate for the ’entire phonathon. His wife, Barbara, was one of the volunteers. Other phone volunteers were Patti Elliott, Peg Quinn. Barbara Swankoski. Trish Myhre, Michelle Wyks, and
Frank Bellwoar.
Envelopes will be mailed out to those who agreed to donate. They should be returned to Bob Smith at the Ocean City Home Sav-
ings and Loan.
