Steel Shot. i*. Laws to Be Enforced
TRENTON - New Jersey waterfowl hunters are advised that the Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife intends to strictly enforce the state's steel shot regulation when waterfowl season opens Oct. 29. The Division's Bureau^ Law Enforcement said tost since there has been a significant increase in the poisoning of birds, particularly the-black duck, from the ingestion of lead shot in certain areas, there • will be intensive 'enforcement of the steel shot law during the 1963 waterfowl •eason. . Persons convicted of using or possessing other than steel shot sheik face a mandatory fine <rf/$20 for each shotgun sbeo. THE DESIGNATED steel shot area is located within the coastal zone. This is the area bounded by the Shark River on. the north; the Garden State - Parkway on the west; the Cape May Canal on the . south, and the Atlantic Ocean on the east. In this designated area, only shotgun shells containing BB or smaller steel pellets will be permitted to be used for hunting waterfowl. Again, possession of lead shot or lead pellets in yie designated area is illegal after the waterfowl season begins. , The coastal zone waterfowl season opens Oct. 29. and runs through Nov. 5. It .reopens Nov. 23. and closes Jan 3rd.', 1984.
