History Of Dance Recalled
CAPE MAY - The South Street Dance Co., Philadelphia’s Modern Dance Repertory Co., will bring an unusual multfmedia dance concert to the city as part of the Victorian Weekend festivities. Sunday at 8. in Convention Hall, the Co., will present “Victorian Rebels and Modem Dance Pioneers”, an evening of dances from Isadora Duncan to the present. Tickets are available at the door. The concert will end in time for anyone wishing to make the stained glass tour at 10 p.m. The concert shows how, beginning at the turn of the century with dancers such as Isadora Duncan, artists rebelled against the stricaYa
tures of Victorian society and found freedom of expression through a new “Modern Dance”. Featured will be Isadora Duncan’s solos and Doris Humprey’s masterpiece. “Day on Earth" Featured dancers include Evelyn Shepard, who has performed internationally in solo concerts with the Pauline Koner Dance Consort, and Tom Brown, a well-known reconstruclor of classics of Modern Dance, who teaches and performs in New York. Artistic Director Ellen Forman and Ms. Shepard have taught in Cape May for the past two summers for the dance company’s Dance by the sea program. This dance concert is only one of many events featured during Cape May’s Victorian Weekend, Oct. 7 through 10, sponsored by the Mid-AUantic Center for the Arts < MAC).
