Conceptual » Art Exhibit CAPE MAY - Jo-Anne Echevarria Myers will pre- 1 sent "Declarations of Independence ", an exhibition •of her current work consisting of installations, assemblages and books, 8 a.m.toS p.m. Oct. 7,8 and 9 at The Mad Batter, 19 Jackson St. After years as a successful painter, Myers declared her independence from a formal art education by moving to the freedom of a more conceptual art. In 1979 she created the first event with the Letter Series. Mailed throughout the country, these works formed the basis for her bode Letters, 1982. Thus the event was documented in the proper tradition of conceptual art. The Money Series began with the mailing of one dollar bjllSsto selected artists in the. United States end abroad. Each recipient altered the bill and returned it as per her request. These results were documented in the book, Money. 1983. In typical tangential exploration the printer's plates of these books were then modified and used to expand the original concept. Out of this activity grew the George book. Using the Washington portrait from the ope dollar bill it was altered, masked and embellished until the original face became a new image portraying many facets of contemporary America, both satiric and laudatory.
