The 21-year-old drinking age which had a devastating impact on center island bistros may give impetus to the long discussed Pacific Ave mall. It's now a matter of survival to cafes Jo have-at-tractive outdoor patios like • those so successful in Cape May. Ugly rumors persist that perhaps the wealthy, powerful Broadwalk merchants have stalled the mail hereabouts With a dominant resident and visiting population of senior citizens, a ■pedestrian haven" seems, .much needed since the beach and 'walk no,longer qualify as such! y MAX HANKER-r OF Lee's Gift Shop, forced off the walk due to escalating rents, found a new success with l)is shop in Stone Harbor He suggests a nifty • plan to finance Convention Hall ,If feasible, he sug-

The Wildwoods Charles V. Mathis*

AVALON* Bill Bergey caught on quick to his AngJesea Liquor Store surroundings. His sign reads: "Welcome, Shriners. Glad That You’re Here!’-’ As of Monday, the sign read: (Page 39 Please)

gests a 50 cent per person head tax be assessed on' each person leaving Wildwood for an evening at the casinos. Most of the/bus excursions are loyally owned. JUDY G IRLAND’S daughter, orna Luft, became fast 'riends with locals Lori Cesar and J.C. Lane during their youthful Broadway days. She’s now an expectant mother and revealed to her Wildwood pals that she’s going into the infants’, wear (rag trade) business. She’s involved in the manufacture of an unusual mediumpriced line. She’ll also be its spokesmom. > Loma’s first collection, like her first baby, comes into the world next spring. Meanwhile, she’s starring off-Broadway with Farrah Fawcett. Lori Cesar passes the glad tidings that her exBroadway starring partner, Anthony Newley, is due soon in a musical about Charles Chaplin.

Franco Harris doesn't live here anymore. After a bankruptcy, he unloaded his local “Wendy’s" franchise. But Franco's been making lots of Pittsbijrgh Steelers and TV commercial headlines of late. During the opening hoopla when Franco first appeared in Wildwood, a Wendy’s employee had a tiff with neighbor, auto dealer Bill Kindle, over the disposal of Wendy's litter. Apparently, aided and abetted by the brisk sea winds, there had been a “spilling bee!’’’ Robust Franco got wind of the hullabaloo and confronted Kindle. But it had a happy ending. The meeting stopped short of fisticuffs and court and Harris and Kindle became good neighbors. Harold Sherwood, vet projectionist for Hunt's theatres, says his sister, a lifelong.resident of Miami, moved to Georgia. The reason? The Cuban invasion. In one adjacent house there were 25 Cubans. Adjacent there were 40 Cubans in one dwelling. But the population density didn’* faze her — it seems the Cubans installed outdoor loudspeakers that blasted Spanish music around the clock!
