CHIROPRACTIC FOR BETTER HEALTH

A spinal column is made up of 26 vertebrae with hollow centers which form a sort of tube Through this tube passes the spinal cord the major nerves which connect the brain with every other part of the body Nerves teanch off from the spinal cOTd. leaving the spine through tiny openings between the vertebrae Vhen a fall or an accident di^places any of the •vertebrae, the nerves leav-

'Jews Notes from The Wildwoods Charles V. Mathis

I Very few folks prefer the f city in which they make a living — if pressed, they’ll ! tell you they much prefer resort living. Among these was ex-North Wildwood lifeguard JOHN DINAN. His family are long time colonists on 14th St. Dinan played quarterback for Roman Catholic High and end for Villanova U. He starred in the "Liberty Bowl” when the Wildcoats were defeated by Oregon State with Heisman Trophy winner Terry Baker A man in his mid-40's and an undertaker by profession, when John realized he was dying of cancer, he asked to live out his last days at his^beloved North Wildwood ’ home A mere shell of the robust athlete he was, Dinan passed away peacefully at his seashore cottage. The experience was a sad one for his exlifeguard buddy, Mike Coogan. Coogan holds the record as the local lifeguard with the most years of service. Vets stadium Nilen Brothers food and beverage concessions are operated by Ron Drake. His brother is Dr. Andy Drake of Cape May. Originally from Chester, Dr. Drake played quarterback for St. James High School. Have you ever heard of painting on elongated boards known as "stret♦chers?” TTiese were once used by Cape farmers and hunters to cure muskrat

pelts.

USUALLY OUR county is the last to receive benefit of any bridge and highway improvements — but not always! On tortuous stretches of Delsea Drive, the state is testing raised pavement markers. Florida pioneered these yellow reflecting markets used to guide cars safely around upcoming curves A long swaith is found around the Leesburg to Dennisville area of Rt. 47. It takes several hundred reflectors to mark only a mile of highway. There are problems, as snow plows can do a number on them. Roy Rodgers appeared in person to launch the newest

of his franchises in Vineland; 3,500 turned out to greet the 72-year-old cowboy. We still puzzle as to why he wasn't invited to the opening of the Wildwood Boardwalk location. Maybe because the chair of city public raltions direction still sits empty? A popular figure center island is Archie Edelsohn, 82-year-old man around the isle. Edelsohn managed Marty Bohn's Nut Gub in Anglesea for over 20 years. He was the brother-in-law of Marty. His sister was Nancy. They ran a tight ship with qne of the most successful bristos on the seaboard. Every now and again, Archie hears from impressionist Jack Wallace, a long time Nut Gub star. If ever there was a comedian who was a barrel of laughs, it was Marty Bohn. His impression of a city party boat fisherman was a classic that should have made national TV. He was every bit as funny as Milton Berle. Nancy Bohn passed away under tragic circumstances a year or so ago in Florida. The Bohn’s daughter is married to well known night club comedian Dusty Brooks.

SPEAKING OFAnglesea, many folks agree that Mayor Anthony Catanoso has the best run and most attractive of the isle’s resorts. The streets appear to be cleaner and -litter free. Spectacular accomplishments include the lighthouse museum, floral center islands on Central Avenue, recreation center, parks and playgrounds and Kennedy Drive. But now the Mayor plans an Anglesea Mall patterned after New Orleans Bourbon Street with some attention to a Fisherman’s Wharf decor. Work will begin in early 1984 on a five-block mall from North New Jersey Ave. from Second Ave. to the inlet. Locals and visitors eagerly await the rejuvenation of

the area of night clubs, restaurants, outdoor cafes, boutiques and shops. Anglesea, called “Little Mexico” in Prohibition days, faces a glowing future with the mall the crowning achievement to the carrer of Mayor Anthony Catanoso and Council! Watch out. Cape May’s Washington Mall — Anglesea wants to share your wealth through the Lighthouse Merchants Association. North Wildwood's transformation to a floral and tree trimmed thriving resort from fields of waving sea oats continues fast space. TALK ABOUT a busman's holiday! Area party boat skippers and mates chartered a bus to Cape Cod for codfishing. However, clouds generated by so-called tropical distrubance Dean

discouraged they sea trek. The worst damage caused by Dean was when the toupee-wearing skipper stood high atop and sand dune with his hair waving in the breeze — but he was too proud to chase it! In nearby Newport, a 1914-era Bull Durham bull tobacco mural has just been restored on a barn. In days of yore, the tobacco company paid a munificent sum of $15 for three years’ rent for the barnside mural ad. AREA COMMERCIAL fishing tycoon Eirik Kirkeberg moves into his penthouse nestled snugly next to Cold Spring Harbor this week. It’s also home base for the Cape Island Yacht Club, now a Wildwood resident! What's the difference between a family and gaming resort? Don Biles, of Pocono’s Skytop Resort, describes it perfectly: “Gamblers don't need a resort. It’s totally incompatible with a family resort area. They don’t golf, (Page 19 Please)
