MID-OCTOpER is enroute. Monarch butterfly time. And, what gorgeous colors we're seeing in our gardens this week. Zinnias and marigolds and roses, dahlias and cannas, cosmos and golden glow, ; aster and petunias, morning glory, scarlet runners andJigeratum, scarlet sage, old-fashioned four o'clocks and balsams — how our gardens glow with colors these days! Among the wild things asters, ironweed, thistle, and goldenrod are still beautiful. The leaves are starting to fall (it's raking time). Another week or so we’ll be getting the deep autumn coloring on our trees and shrubs. That symphony of color is always a welcome sight, don’t you agree? While September may have been an idle time, October is anything BUT. Too much to do to prepare for the cold weather. Are your storm windows up? Have the winter blankets had an airing? Do last winter’s skirts till fit or do you have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe? The kids are starting to pester about Ha)loween -Costumes. While many mothers don’t give it a thought until the last moment & dress the kids in costumes made from a roll of aluminum foil, this might be a good time to get going on putting the imagination to work on an early bird special. Speaking of fun, we always have a good time at these restaurants: RUSSO’S — Italian specialists. .Russo’s Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge at 4415 Park Blvd., Wildwood has been serving the finest seafood & Italian dishes for as long as we can remember and no matter how many times we’ve come for dinner, we’ve never come away disappointed. Dinners are served from 5 to 9, andon Fridays & Saturdays from 5 to 9:30. Open all year,"Russo’s has built a reputation that sticks in the minds of folks who like to eat well. While the Italian dishes have a loyal following the seafood dishes are equally as good. THE PETER SHIELDS — open all year. Whenever you want to get off for an afternoon or evening that takes you away from the humdrum. Cape May’s recommended choice is The Peter Shields Restaurant, at 1301 Beach Ave., overlooking the beautiful Atlantic. Formerly a palatial home, it is now the setting for romantic dining either on theTabulous porch — or indoors nearby enormous windows that show off the sparkling tides. The food is so good it Ls worthy of special recognition. The seafood is freshly arrived and an excellent choice. A superb setting for Christmas parties. Luncheon and cocktails noon 'til 4 p.m. Dinner & cocktails served daily 4 p.m. ’til 12 midnight. WATSON’S MERION INN — finale times. Watson’s Merion Inn, at 106 Decatur Street, Cape May will soon close for the season, but in the meantime you can enjoy all the delicious choices that have made this fine restaurant one of the best in the area. — Open weekends in October, the traditional choices continue at the Merion, served as always by the fine staff, who take extra care to see that you feel special. The atmosphere is one of olde Cape May, appointed with antiques restored to their original splendor. The bar is a pleasant place to relax before dinnertime. • • • HENNY’S — the people pleasers. Henny's at 97th & Third Avenue, Stone Harbor is a highly renewed established which, for years, has been serving localities and ' (Page 27 Please)
