A Splashy. Start for Rec Slate

CAPE MAY - All roads figuratively lead to the pool this month as the city holds swimming team tryouts and offers classes in lifesaving and scuba diving as part of the fall recreation program. Swimming team tryouts will be conducted 7 p.m. Friday. Oct. 14 at the Elementary School. Swimming coach Karen Danner. and assistant coach Len Bens lead will monitor the tryouts. Regular practice will begin Friday, Nov. 4. For further information contact the Department of Civic Affairs at 884-841L ext. 20 or 27. Enrollment is still open for lifesaving in the fall recreation schedule. This American Red Cross Advanced Life-saving course will be offered to coeds 15 years and older. The 21-hour class will require pool work and classroom instruction after which students will be tested to determine their knowledge. The course will be conducted 6-9 p.m. Sum day at the Elementary School. Anyone interested is urged to call the Department of Civic Affairs at 884-6411, ext. 20 or 27 for further information. A class in Scuba diving is also being offered as part of the schedule. The NAUI course is nationally certified and consists of 32 hours of instruction, plus two \final dives. Students must be at least 12 years old. The class will give the swimmer a proper introduction to equipment use and the ocean environment. Upon successful completion students will receive a certificate and a card verifying a passing effort in a nationally certified SCUBA course. The class will be conducted 6:30-10:30 p.m. Tuesdays.
