Landscape Expert Hired for Landfill

SWAINTON - The County Municipal Utilities Authority has hired a landscape architect to prepare landscaping plans to be incorporated at the countywide sanitary landfill schedqled to become . operational next spring. Walter S. Carell, Jr., a licensed landscape architect from Millington, was awarded a contract to prepare final designs, construction details, technical specifications and cost estimates for landscaping at the landfill. In addition to preparing plans for the planting of vegetation along visible portions of the site, Carell will prepare landsaping plans for the entranceway, administration and maintenance buildings and convenience station '‘Local landscaping contractors will have the opportunity to bid on the actual implementation of these designs next spring,'' stated Ted O’Neill, solid waste manager for the MUA. The landscape architect will also supervise the selected contractor in the proper installation and maintenance of trees, shrubs and other plantings at this site.

PREPARING AND carrying out these designs will also allow the authority to meet a New Jersey Pine lands Commission requirement that all landfill operations and facilities wiTTi be invisible to neighboring residents. To meet this need, the authority’s plans call for the planting of new trees and shrubs on the'cleared southwestern portion of the site’s existing buffer zone. Previously cleared areas within the wooded portion of this buffer zone will also be revegetated to ensure complete screening of all landfill operations. The design for these new plantings must be approved by the Pinelands Commission and must adhere to the Commission’s strict standards that only trees and shrubs nitive to the Pinelands can be used. ‘ ’ Throughout the development, operation and final closure of this sanitary landfill, our authority intends to be responsible neighbors, meeting our obligations to the host communities and to the Pinelands Commission to protect and con-

Maintenance Men Save Co. Money

COURT HOUSE - The ^County Maintenance Department is a money saver for the taxpayers, according to Freeholder Ralph Evans. Evans, who is seeking reelection to his third term, has Buildings and Grounds as one of his freeholder responsibilities. "Our facilities are spread throughout the county to better serve v all our residents. These buildings need constant repair work and in some cases remodieing," he said. “When I became a freeholder, a complete survey was made of all buildings and grounds. Priorities were set as to what needed to be worked on first,’’ Evans stated. "Drawing on my experience as a building con-" tractor, I felt a good

maintenance crew would save time and money. We have developed that department and fine tuned the crew’s skills. This group of county workers takes the utmost pride in their, work. We have extremely talented craftsmen refurbishing and remodeling some of our buildings. The department is managed as any other contracfing business. They are extremely-cost conscious," the freeholder reported. "I believe we have a great range time-table for keeping our buildings in the proper condition. When you have a full maintenance department, you can do more than just minor repairs. We make sure the repairs solve the problem and stop it from reoccurring.”

CHIROPRACTIC FOR BETTER HEALTH

Proper posture is especially important for children. Poor posture, the prolonged hours of sitting in a slumped position in school or before the TV set, can cause a curvature of the spine with resultant health problems. In a curved spine, some vertebrae are pressed so closely together that the nerves which should pass

CHltOPftACTO* freely between them are pinched. This means an impairment in the ability of the nerve to carry nerve energy needed to control certain muscles, organs or glands. The result is poor health. Spinal curvature can be corrected by chiropractic adjustment. Dr. Joseph J. Rizzo — Chiroproctor —
