for Cape May-Cumberlai recently charges that Trenton is shortchanging tourism despite its value to

the state.

Salmon also called for a bipartisan study team to examine operations of the County municipal Utilities Authority, which he charged with "poor management" and an "uncaring

attitude"

"Tourism provides more jobs than any other industry not only in Cape May County but the entire State of New Jersey, yet it continues to be shortchanged in Trenton," Salmon

declared.

“Every businessman knows that when you have a product to sell, you must not only market your product but you have to do it just a little bit better than your competitors if you are going to be successful. New Jersey has budgeted $1.1 million for tourism, which is grossly inadequate when you consider that New York State spends $12 million a year. Pennsylvania $6.8 million, and Virginia $3.8 million," said

Salmon.

tion dollar has been proven to return $19 in tourist expenditure” Salmon added. "When you consider that prospective tourists who currently request -tourism brochures from the state are asked to pay a handling fee, you realise that certain people must not have been doing any

homework recently." Salmon then assailed the

County Municipal Utilities

Authority.

"Residents of the south end of Ocean City have had their lives made uncomfortable by the actions, or more appropriately, lack of action by the MUA," said Salmon. "Residents have been forced to put up with unbelievable odors, a never-ending flow of trucks carrying raw sewage (even on Sundays), staggering costs, and streams of unfulfilled promises.” In addition, Salmon says, MUA problems are hurting the area’s tourism industry. “People come to the shore to get away from pollution, not to be overwhelmed by obnoxious odors.” said Salmon. we can’t give tourists what they are looking for, then they will look elsewhere." RESIDENTS WHO live In the vicinity of the 46th St. MUA waste water treatment plant have been fighting an uphill battle for yean in an effort to seek a remedy to the MUA’s "poor management and uncaring attitude," Salmon went on. To help identify and implement solutions to the recurring MUA problems, Salmon seeks to create a bipartisan study team to closely scrutinize all aspects of the MUA’s per-

Advisory Committee Favored

TUCKAHOE - Bob Jeffers and Franklin Sack, Independent Republican candidates for Upper Township Committee, have announced they support the idea of a ‘Citizens Advisory Committee’ for Upper Township. "We have found that, after talking with the voters, that sometimes elected officials become isolated from the people they represent, and many good citizen ideas go overlooked," Jeffers said. "Franklin Sack and I feel that Upper Township needs a bi-partisan advisory committee to meet regularly, assess the ideas, suggestions and wants of the people of Upper Township, and report those findings to the Township Committee." "After we are elected, we will seek volunteers from the four corners of the Township, from every political background and a cross section of the jobs and professions, to serve on this township advisory committee," Sack said. The Independent Republican candidates have the support and backing of the original. 30-year-old Upper Township Republican Club.
