Gorman For Task Force
MILLVILLE - A Wcounty task force and priority legislative action to combat the problem* of drug and alcohol abuse were proposed by Democrat Assembly Candidate Jeanne Gorman to members of the Cumberland County Medical Society, at a recent meeting. “One of the most devastating problems affecting our society today is the epidemic of substance abuse, particularly among our children. Yet there is no uniform statewide
policy to address the issue and the few treatment programs that do exist have been cut in funding. Further, there are no funds specifically allotted to treat adoles-cent alcoholics," Gorman said. ‘The waste in human potential, in lives and the exorbitant economic expense involved in addiction and criminality can be substantially reduced if we mandate effective prevention programs and treatment rather than the jail cell for many abusers," she declared.

REFERRING TO a recent cost benefit analysis by Gaudenzia, Inc., Pennsylvania's pioneer therapeutic rehabilitation program, Gorman said, "This study effectively demonstrates that the recovery of only SO drug addicts and treatment of an on-going caseload of 25 others over a five-year period, will not only save lives, but a minimum of nine million dollars for the taxpayers." Gorman also told the doctors that she had visited more than 5,000 homes in Cumberland and Cape May County and that she is acutely aware of the problems that people are facing today. "As doctors, practicioners in the art of healing, you know them too well. Daily, you see the stress effects of the high unemployment rate, the cutbacks in human services, escalating costs in survival living, such as utility bills and insurance, and all you can do very often is treat the symptom because there is no medical cure, no mirkcle drug for the social and economic ills .of 1983," she said.
Quit, Stubbs Tells Gorman N. CAPE MAY - Charging, among other things,^ that a recent agreement for cooperation between the Middle Township and Lower Township Police Departments creates a potential for conflict of interest, Samuel M Stubbs, Republican candidate for Lower Township Committee, has called on Bruce Gorman to resign as Lower Township solicitor. Stubbs also asked how much Lower Township owes the solicitor, saying that he has not been paid by the township for seven months.
