Students Quiz Pols CAPE MAY - SLudenU from the Cape May City Elementary School asked some profoundly simple questions of the county Democratic and GOP chairmen and candidates for state offices Monday, Thomas Levin, fifth grade teacher reported. '‘Since you make all the rules," the students wrote in their invitations to the politicians for the Legislative Candidates' Day, "we would like to hear what you have to say about it (education)." "Questions were really very, very thought provocating," Levin said, "like, ‘Why are there Catholic and public schools; why is there homework...?’ " v Assemblyman Guy F. Muiiani fielded the Catholic/public school question. He replied that Catholic schools were formed so their teachers could provide the religious instruction prohibited in public schools. Assemblyman Joseph Chinnici answered the homework question. He told the students homework reinforces the instruction provided in class. "They were very impressed with the kids and the kids were very impressed with them." Levin concluded. Besides Chinnici and Muziani, the other politicans attending the program were: Philip A. Matalucci, county Republican chairman; James lannone, county Democratic chairman and candidate for county freeholder; state Sen. James R. Hurley; his Democratic opponent Christopher H. Riley Jr. and Democratic Assembly candidate Edward H. Salmon, a Cumberland CdQnty freeholder.
