There is also a rare disorder of the nerves of the esophagus which cause the normal swallowing muscles to become irregular and uncoordinated, often catching food and liquids during
Trouble swallowing (dysphagia) is one of the seven warning signs of cancer. In particular, it is the most important sign for cancer of the swallowing tube, leading from the mouth to stomaeh (esophagus). Specific examples of what is meant by dysphagia include: pills getting stuck in the throat upon swallowing; having to cut food into smaller pieces and steak, doughy breads, and potatoes getting stuck on the way down. These other disorders are nothing to ignore either. Although not always life threatening, each is serious and uncomfortable and can lead to aspiration of food into the lungs, pneumonia, or choking. Cancer of the esophagus is found three times more frequently in males than females, and most frequently in blacks. Smoking cigarettes, pipe and cigars, and alcohol consumption have been linked to this kind of cancer. Most recently, it has been shown that people who drink their beverages scaling, have a greater chance of cancer than those who do not. In certain areas of the world, this habit is associated with particularly high rates of esophageal cancer. ' THESE AREAS are northern China, Iran, and

parts of Russia. It is believed that smoking, alcohol and hot liquids create the sort of atmosphere conducive to have ncrmal cells change (or mutate). Weight loss is another important cancer warning signal which applied to esophageal carcinoma. (Your physician, upon hearing of your symptoms, will arrange several tests for you which will most likely include: Dan X-ray examination of the esophagus. 2)an endoscopy (a new test in which a lighted tube with a lens at the end is slipped down the esophagus to allow the doctor to directly look at the affected area).
