. Most reunion albums are dismal failures, but Arfc (I.E.S.) by The Animals is a welcome exception. The Animals, along with The Beatles, Stones, Kinks, and Yardbirds, were a main part of the British rock invasion of the mid-6Qs. Their rough, raw R&B flavored o sound produced majestic £ hits such as “Don't Bring Me Down", House Of The Rising Sun”, We Gotta Get

Alao Vega has been making offbeat, experimental rock records since the mid-70s but with the aid of producer Ric Ocasek of The Cars, Saturn Strip (Elektra) has a shot of chart success. Vega’s album has plenty of synthesizers and quirky melodies, but his voice is. clear and powerful and the steady rhythms could find several tunes success on the dance club circuit.

remained.

Burdon continued to use the name The Animals but his new music was far removed from his blues roots, as he jumped onto the psychedelic bandwagon. More hits followed until he decided to call it quits. In 77 the original Animals got back together and made a pleasant, although low-keyed reunion album. Unfortunately, the group decided it wasn’t strong enough to bother touring. This time, they know they’ve got a real winner and are back on the road working hard to please their old fans as well as win over some young ones. ,

Art is a solid effort. The group is back R&B inspired rock and all seem to have aged gracefully as musicians. As before, the musical sound is based on a rerk steady rhythm provided by drummer John Steel and bassist Chas Chandler, while guitarist Hilton Valentine gives short, to the point breaks and Alan Price offers his stunning fills on piano and organ. On top of all this are the still demanding, forceful vocals of Eric Burdon. The single from The Ark is "The Night", an infectious number that ranks with their best hits. Hopefully, The Animals can regain commercial success, because 1, for one, would like to see this reunion con-
