Captain’s License Course

CAPE MAY - A 40-hour captain’s license preparation course for local boatowners and operators who want to carry passengers for hire will be held by Houston Marine Training Services in Cape May Nov. 7 to Nov. 17. The course, which will prepare individual for the U.S. Coast Guard motorboat operator, inland operator or ocean operator license exams, will include material on Rules of the Road, Navigation, Seamanship and Safety regulations. Classes will be held for nine nights at the Cape May V.F.W., 419 Congress St. Classes will be taught by Charles Juechter of Houston Marine Training Services, a division of Houston Marine Consultants, Inc., of New Orleans. Traffic Up On Ferry, Bridge CAPE MAY - During September, traffic on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry increased by 1,058 vehicles increased by 1,855 passengers from September, 1982. These, statistics were reported to the Delaware River and Bay Authority. During the same period, Delaware Memorial Bridge Traffic increased by 77,708 vehicles. Ferry traffic for September, 1983, was 35,312 vehicles and 111,782 passengers compared to 34,254 vehicles and 109,927 passengers for September, 1982, and increase of 3.1 percent for vehicles and 1.7 percent for passengers. For the twelve-month period ended September 30, 1983, traffic was 276,§78 vehicles and 857,509 passengers compared to 263,297 vehicles and 814,170 passengers for the 12-month period ended September 30, 1982, an increase of 5.1 percent for vehicles and 5.3 percent for passengers.

Net Up at 1st Jersey JERSEY CITY - First Jersey National Corpora tion reported net income of $3,671,000 or $1.09 per share for the three months ended Sept. 30, up 23 percent and 22 percent per share^ respectively from the same period in 1982. Net income for the ninemonth period ended Sept. 30 was $11,407,000 or $3.46 per share, compared to $8,597,000 or $2.57 per share in 1982, a per. share increase of 35 percent. Comparing the third quarters of 1983 and 1982, Thomas J. Stanton, Jr., chairman of First Jersey, noted that net interest margins remained stable during both periods while average earning assets in- * creased by over $200 million, of which approximately 60 percent consisted of additional commercial loan volume.
