Gorman Gets Nod Of Labor

’VINELAND - The New Jersey State AFL-CIO and the Central Labor Union of Cumberland and Salem Counties have unanimously endorsed Democrat candidate Jeanne Gorman for Assemblywoman for the First District, it was announced here by Henry Hill, president of the Cumberland-Salem County CLU. Some '800 delegates representing 750,000 members of the state AFLCIO voted to support Gorman at their recent statewide conference of the Committee on Political Education held in Atlantic City recently. Hill said. The Central Labor Union,, representing 28,000 members of 33 unions in Cumberland and Salem Counties, gave her a similar unanimous endorsement at their regular meeting on September 27th, he said. GORMAN SAID she was “entremely gratified with the vote of confidence in my candidacy. No one has more respect than I do for the ideals an d achievements of the union movement, ideals and achievements that are now being threatened by the anti-union influence of this administration. “According to a recent news report," she said,"

The present board, lannone said, has “failed miserably in keeping the public informed on MUA activities". The MUA may be an autonomous body, lannone declared, but “the board should follow up on its appointments to make sure that the public is being fairly considered."

country.

ministration's attitude toward community and workers’ health and safety is reflected in the slow dismantling of the Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). It is therefore up to the states to enact legislation for our protection," Gorman said.
