Fight Urged On Utility Rate Boost

Jobs Need Stressed

WILDWOOD - Assemblyman Guy Muziani has come out in strong opposition to the proposed $53.4 million increase for Atlantic Electric. “It is totally unfair to burden the residents and business community each year with rate increases " Muziani said. This year the company received approval for $12.1 million revenue, which was to cover direct costs for energy purchases Muziani indicated that in 1982 Atlantic Electric requested $172.4 million increase Strong opposition came from the residents, business people and of-

ficials coordinated by STOP TT>e Electric Punch, (S.T.E.P.) to stop this increase After nine public hearings and petitions with thousands of names, the one increase was kept to approximately $69 million. Muziani continued, ‘T am in contact with Barbara Curran, president of the Board of Public Utilities to make sure enough public hearings are set in the various parts of the service area. I want them arranged early and well publicized so the public can testify. We must have another unified voice in opposition to this outrageous request.” Route 55 Start Hailed By Chinnici TRENTON - Assemblyman Joseph W. Chinnici <R., 1st Dist.), in Wildwood Crest recently, emphatically stated that through the efforts of Sen. James R. Hurley, Assemblyman Guy F. Muziani and himself, has finally work commenced on the superhighway Route 55. Chinnici said that the first seven miles of Route 555 will be in construction within the next yegr or so. and the remaining 13 miles, which will be advertised for bid within the next several years, should cost less than the first seven miles. The assemblyman further stated that over the years the one thing that has held Cumberland County economically backward is that there are no superhighways leading out of the county to deliver merchandise, improve the economy and increase tourism. Chinnici said, “I am confident that by the end of the decade, the completion of Route 55 from Port Elizabeth to the NorthSouth Freeway in Turnersvilie will be a reality and ready for use.

SEA ISLE CITY - Greater effort to create year-’round jobs for Cape May County residents were urged by Jim lannone, Democratic candidate for freeholder, in a release “We must continue to build on the strengths of our present assets in order to attract the right types of business," lannone said. “We must push hard for the completion of Rte. 55, we must provide a company relocating here with a ready and trained work force through coordinated vocational and higher

educational training, with courses to complement the new jobs that will be available.” Meanwhile, lannone said, the county must continue to support the tourism economy which is the county’s mainstay, and seek out ways to extend the tourist season.
