NEW VAN — Cape May County Office on Aging unveiled its neu courtesy van last week, a federally-financed 968,000 traveling office that will lake services to the elderly and also transport semi-invalid residents of Crest Haven, county facility for the elderly, on outings. RIO GRANDE - The Cape May County Office on Aging, last month held a dedication ceremony for the new courtesy van which will provide expanded services for the older residents of thecounty. The primary' intended use of the 16 passenger van will be as mobile office to bring the services of the Office on Aging to people in sections of the county remote from the office. This unit is the first of its kind in the state and one of four mobile offices in the country. The Airstream mobile unit was obtained by the board of freeholders through a federal grant of $70,000, of which the van cost $68,000. No county taxes were used to purchase the vehicle. THE VAN IS especially equipped with a ramp entrance to provide access for people in wheelchairs and others who would have difficulty climbing steps. In addition the vehicle includes wheelchair locks so that up to eight wheelchairs can be transported safely. Also provided are a lavatory and portable office equipment such as removable privacy screens and work surfaces. The mobile unit is driven by staff of the County Transportation Dept, who have been specifically trained to operate this vehicle. The staff of the Office on aging will provide the mobile office assistance'on concerns of older people such as Medicare, RAAD and Lifeline Applications. The courtesy van is being scheduled by the month and schedules will be published in local newspapers. FXirther infor-
