Dining Guide
HELLO NOVEMBER! The trees and bushes will soon be clean as a whistle, but there are still traces of autumn color here and there. Yup, the heater's on again — and with that, come the heating bills. November is the prelude to winter - so get ready. There are November days, here and there, that bring back a touch of summer. It is about this time of the year that we get a stretch of warm dry weather with little wind and usually a bit of haze in the air. In this country we call it ‘Indian Summer.' In England, France and Italy it’s known as ‘St. Martin's Summer.’ November is an in-between season in Nature’s calendar For long periods the stratus clouds hang low over fields and beaches. Brown grass carpets the lawns, and brown is the moist, soft rug beneath the maples and oaks. Oh, there's plenty to do in the eleventh month. The garden has to be raked up and left shipshape for spring. Whatever you can do in the fall means a headstart in the springtime. (It'll be here sooner than you think). Day’s end comes quickly now; no slow drawing of the curtain. It's nightime — boom. boom. It’s not too early to be thinking of Thanksgiving — just three weeks away. Is your house spanking clean for the holiday? Have the curtains come down and fresh ones put up? Do you know where the turkey platter is? Better get busy! • • • ALEXANDER’S — Gourmet Brunch. One of Cape May’s great dining traditions is the Sunday brunch at Alexander’s, at 653 Washington Street, where this elegant event originated. People come from miles away to enjoy an extravagant brunch in a grand historical mansion. Choose from a most extraordinary sampling of choices. While you mull over the menu, help yourself to richly brewed coffee served in a silver pot, and refilled throughout the morning. Sunday brunch starts at 9 a.m. Alexander’s is now accepting reservations for Thanksgiving — a word to the wise — reserve early. Call 884-255. RUSSO'S — Italian specialists. Rus&o's, at 4415 Park Blvd., Wildwood is the long-time favorite of almost every local resident who enjoys Italian excellence, but doesn't want to worry about the wallet. Russo’s offers the finest seafood & Italian dishes at affordable prices. Dinners are served from 5 to 9, and on Friday & Saturday from 5 to 9:30. There is no season of the year when you can’t enjoy Russo’s specialties — it’s open all year round. Enjoy your favorite cocktails while you await dinner The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed. You’re going to enjoy yourself at Russo’s! • • • CAPT’N AHAB’S — Fine cooking! Capt'N Ahab’s on Route 47 (Wildwood Blvd.), between Rt. 9 & Garden State Parkway, Rio Grande is renowned locally for serving “bountiful portions of really great food, at reasonable prices” It’s no secret that the natives like good food, quiet decor and friendly service when they go out to eat. More and more local people have been finding their way to Capt'N Ahab’s to enjoy ocean fresh broiled or fried fish, lobster, clams, scallops, oysters, shrimp & crab as well as prime rib, succulent steaks, tender veal, chicken and Italian specialties. There is a daily special for $6.95, always a satisfying meal. (Page 4 5 Please)
