CAPE MAY - In observance of New Jersey Arts Week, the County Art League has scheduled a week-long series of events, beginning with a reception 8 p.m. Sunday opening the month-long exhibit of the league’s Juried Members Show. Hie show will feature works of league artists and will include a “poetry wall” (hi which members of the Cape Writers Co-op will exhibit their works. The reception will also include a reading by members of the co-op. League member and sculptor Stephen LaManna will conduct a sculpture demonstration in the Upstairs Gallery 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7. Demonstrations will continue Tuesday, Nov. 8, with a painting demonstration by league artists. THE LEAGUE will sponsor a Kids Art Program 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. Parents are invited to bring their school-age
children for an afternoon of arts and crafts. The Cape Writers’ Co-op * will sponsor an open reading 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Writers from groups in Cape May and Atlantic Counties have been invited to read, and local residents are invited to read original works. League member Monte Merrick will be featured in an original drama called “Catch the Wind” 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11. A reception will follow the play. The Victorian Village Plaza Project will be dedicated 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, with league president Charles Bernard and mural designer Cheryl Crews-Lynch officiating at the mural site. A reception at the Art League, 1050 Washington St., will be held 2-4 p.m. TO COINCIDE with the Arts Week celebration, the League has planned a Christmas Workshop Series. Featured will be three days of workshops in which participants will make Christmas tree ornaments. The workshops will be held in the Carriage House on the Emlen Physick Estate.
The first workshop, 3:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 7, will be on ornament making using brad dough; Wednesday, Nov. 9, “suncatcher ornaments” of paper, candy and wax, and Friday, Nov. 11, fabric ornaments. There will be a charge to cover the cost of the materials. The other activities of Arts Week are free. During the week, the Art League will be open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. every day except Wednesday, Nov. 9. Tonight: Pilgrims COURT HOUSE - The county Historical Society is sponsoring a lecture tonight at eight in the County Library, Mechanic Street. Edith Hoelle, trustee and librarian of the Gloucester County Historical Society will speak on “Providence and the Princely Paupers of Plimouth”. The lecture features the Pilgrims during the years 1620-1621. Refreshments will be served after the lecture. Donations accepted.
