Schools Thank Lawmen
SCHOOL THANKS — Certificates of appreciation from Lower Township schools are presented by Jerry Livingston, assistant superintendent of schools, left; Eric Wise of Consolidated School, student council representative, to Sgt. Harry Wilson and Sheriff Beech Fox, for the Sheriffs Department, which conducted voluntary fingerprinting program.
LOWER TWP. — Student Council representative Eric Wise of the Consolidated School presented Sheriff Beech Fox and Sgr. Harry Wilson certificates of appreciation on behalf of The Lower Township Elementary Schools recently. Last spring members of the Sheriffs Department spent time at the schools fingerprinting all the children whose parents were interested. The sheriff’s personnel volunteered their off-duty time to do this extensive* job.
THE PROGRAM to provide parents with a permanent record of their child’s fingerprints came about as a result of the Missing Children’s Act. This new law brings the Federal Bureau of Investigation into a missing persons case under new and clearer guidelines. The voluntary fingerprinting is underway on a wide scale in cooperation with law enforcement agencies, parents and school systems. It is estimated that there are 1.8 million children reported missing every year. Approximately
100,000 of these remain unaccounted for during that period. The FBI estimates that 50,000 children of this group are victims of abduction. From 2,500 to 5,000 children are buried each year as unidentified bodies. Thus it is a valuable reference for every family to have their children fingerprinted.
