Mural to Be Dedicated Saturday

CAPE MAY-The County Art League's Victorian Village Plaza Mural Project on Washington St., across from Victorian towers, is nearing completion and will be dedicated at an on site ceremony 1 p.m. Saturday. A reception will follow at 2 p.m. at the Art League, in the Carriage House on the Physick Estate, 1050 Washington St. The generosity of Stewart Gray, owner of Model Cleaners, on which the mutal has been painted: and, of MAB Paints in Wildwood, donor of the paints; and the dedication of artists Cheryl Crews-Lynch, mural designer. Mary Ann Cannon, Mary Federici, Shirley Firak and Barbara Knipple has helped to further the Art League's commitment to bring art to the community. Ms. Crews-Lynch’s design of a porch of a long ago Victorian boarding house filled with people reflects the historical and continuing charm of Cape May. The choice of design, from the details of the porch railing to the poses and activities of the characters, intrigued a great many people. Ms. Crews-Lynch had little problem soliciting volunteers to pose. All of the characters who fill the porch are Cape May County residents. ARTIST BARBARA Knipple painted herself and her husband William, who is reading what looks suspiciously like a racing form; Mary Federici's daughter Charlotte is listening to poetry read byWildwood resident David Check; and, Ms. Crews Lynch’s husband, sculptor Gerald Lynch, is entertain ing everyone with his banjo Tbe list of real people who have become involved in the project and pan of the painting include Phyliss Catanoso of North Wildwood, William Smith of Avalon. Art League President Charles Bernard, Monte, Roseann. and Jessica Merrick of North Wildwood. Mrs. Janet Vance of Court House and Mrs. Jean Timmons of Cape May Future plans for the site include planting of trees and flowers and the installation of benches to enable residents and tourists to enjoy the mural.
