COURT HOUSE - County residents will have the opportunity to evaluate their lifestyles and health risk factors as part of State Health Day activities Friday noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The State Department of Health, in cooperation with the County Health Department and other local health agencies, has planned a state-wide screening effort to help residents adopt healthier lifestyles. Through a six part, selfadmipistered, written test called '‘Healthstyle,” New Jerseyans will be able to take a hard look at their health habits and learn how they can reduce their health risks. In addition, at two sites, the Wildwood Medical Center, 115 W. Davis Ave., and the Ocean City American Legion Hall, 14th and Haven Aves., hypertension screening will be conducted to identify persons who suffer from high blood pressure, but do not know it. HYPERTENSION IS known as the "silent killer" since it has no symptoms officials said. A stroke or heart attack is often the first indication that the

Inspection System Launched

TRENTON - New Jersey motorists have the option of having their vehicles inspected at state motor vehicle inspection stations or private, state licensed garages beginning Nov. 14, said Clifford W. Snedeker, director of the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles. "The new system intended to give the dividual motorist freedom to select the system best suited to his or her needs and personal time schedule,” Snedeker said.

condition exists in those who have never had their blood pressure measured. “Uncontrolled high blood pressure is a leading cause of death and disability in New Jersey, as well as in the United Staes," according to Dr. J. Richard Goldstein, State Health Commissioner. An estimated two million New Jerseyans suffer from high blood pressure and one quarter of them do not know it. "The objective of State Health Day is to get people involved in their own health care,” said Dr. Goldstein. “It’s easy for people to complain about medical costs, or point to an eiivironmental hazard as the cause of their ills, but the plain truth is that if we drank less alcohol, threw away cigarettes, drove more safely, wore seat belts, walked just 20 minutes per day, and ate rationally, we could dismantle over half of our health care system.”
