News Notes — (From Page 16) in Rome, received the papal noon-day blessing from the balcony of the Vatican and made a pilgrimage to St. Francis of Assissi. Fell-tourists from this area included Virginia Loose and Bonnie Anzaione of Stone Harbor; Cecilia Napoleon and Dr. and Mrs. Anatoly Borisow and their son Terry of CMCH. How we wish our name could have been included on that list. Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce Prexy, Jim Fisher, called us today to say that the principal speaker for the November dinner-meeting at Henny’s on the 21st will be William Garrett, the son of one of the inventors of Seascape, the artificial seaweed which has been used with such success at Cape Hatteras to prevent beach erosion. It is now being placed at Stone Harbor Point and the job is expected to be completed by this weekend. ••• Hadn’t seen Ruth (Mrs. Herman) Kapp in ages, so we stopped to see her where she spends most of her time these days, her new jewelry store Studio I in the Rio Grande Mall at the corner of Rte. 4? and Rte. 9. The entrance to the mall is most readily found by looking for signs advertising the twin movie theaters and J.C. Penney Catalog Store, which it also encompasses. We were totally unprepared for the enormity of the mall itself and the variety of terrific shops to be found there. Almost the first thing we saw was Studio I. A truly

impressive store which more nearly resembles Tiffany’s on 5th Ave., than anything one would expect to find in a small coastal town. The decor is done in burgundy and charcoal and the display cases and numerous windows(crammed with Christmas goodies) are lined in velvet to show off a magnificent collection of precious gems. Ruth has gone into partnership with Joseph McMahon, of Marmora, a graduate gemologist who will be designing jewels to. order and remounting stones you may have inherited or collected. Joe is a personable young man as well as being one heck of an artist in his field. His wife, Joyce; owns an adjacent boutique, La Chic. He is also an accredited appraiser. Studio I can be summed up in two words “restrained elegance”, you owe yourself a visit. Last week’s column was erroneous in stating that the Angelus Chorus concert to be given at Avalon’s Community Hall on Saturday, Dec. 3rd at 8 p.m. would be co-sponsored by the Avalon Home and Landowner’s Association is the only sponsor and any member of that group may be contacted for tickets, which will also be sold at the door .
