Chamber Seeking Members
COURT HOUSE - The County Chamber of Commerce is planning a campaign to recruit new members, with hopes of restoring a membership base of over 600 members. Robert C. Patterson, Jr., executive director, urges every member to talk to fellow businessmen and professional people and urge them to join the chamber. Progress during the past year was traced by Patterson in his annual report. For the first time last fall, the chamber held an investment seminar for small business owners, and the past spring, a tax and record keeping seminar was held for small businesses. THE TRANSPORTATION Committee completed and published its “justification data stuffc" on the North Wildwood Blvd. reconstruction project and saw completion of its efforts to obtain new exit designations and signs on the Court House Bypass of the Parkway. The Economic Education Committee presented “Economics for Young Americans Phase III” kits to the county’s five high schools. These audio visual aide study kits were furnished by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Two successful golf tournaments were held, and the Beautification Awards Program continued to grow in popularity, with 28 nominations made in this year’s contest.

COURT HOUSE - Loan requests from fishermen are sought by the County Planning Board to follow up on a Small Cities Block Grant of $500,(X»-awarded Cape May County for its commericial fishing industry Nov. 3. The grant application was prepared last summer by the County Planning Board with assistance from the Sea Grant Extension Service and from fishermen who identified their financing needs. THIS SMALL loan program ($50,000) was suggested because it was felt that it would be able to assist more fishermen. The revolving nature of the loans means that as they are paid off, the money will be available for new loans. Fishermen’s requests, describing financial needs, will help the planning board decide which loans to support. Final decisions on loan applications will be made by the County or the Industrial and Economic Development Commissions with advice from a loan committee. It is expected that loans will be available to fishermen by April or May.
Any fishermen thinking of adding new equipment for harvesting or handling mackerel or squid are urged to contact Jim Smith of the Planning Board to let him know of the plans. Dealers’ Assn. Meets Monday SOMERS POINT - The New Jersey Marine Dealers’ Association will meet 8 p.m. Nov. 21, at Mac’s Restaurant. Members who wish to meet informally for dinner before the meeting should be there at6:30 p.m. The main business of the meeting will be an update on recent anti-trust and anti-discrimination actions taken by the state against some members of the marine industry. Prospective members and guests are welcome. The New Jersey Marine Dealers Association is composed of marine dealers and related businesses in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties, and is a chapter of the Marine Trades’ Association of New Jersey.
